About Imre Lachegyi
Biography
Recorder artist and music teacher Imre Lachegyi, outstanding personality in Hungarian early music life, was born in 1966. He started learning to play wind instruments in Béla Bartók Music School in Vác at the age of four, then in the secondary school of music in Szombathely, at the faculty of trombone. He continued his studies in the College of Music in Debrecen in 1986, at the faculty of solfeggio and music theory, then in ELTE Teacher Training College in Budapest, where he obtained his first degree of music teacher and choir master in 1991. He started playing the recorder in 1986; his masters were György Róbert and László Czidra. He got his second degree at University of Szeged as an early music player and recorder artist in 2002. His professor was László Lőrincz. In the ‘90s he founded his own early music ensemble, with which he regularly gave concerts. Also, he released his first two CDs in that period.
He is the artistic director of Sonora Hungarica Consort early music ensemble, who play mainly Baroque and Early Baroque pieces on the recorder, harpsichord and the viola da gamba, often with the participation of singers and other instrumentalists. He is also founder and director of Sebastian Consort, where he can express his artistic ideas in a repertoire ranging from medieval times to contemporary music with varied performing companies. In these ensembles as well as in other formations he has already played with a lot of excellent and renown Hungarian musicians such as Márta Ábrahám, Sándor Szászvárosi, Anasztázia Bednarik, Gergely Bogányi, Tibor Bogányi, Anneke Boeke, Noémi Kiss, Géza Klembala, Krisztina Jónás, Accord String Quartet, Csaba Klenyán, István Győri, Soma Dinyés, Ádám Cser, Dávid Szigetvári, Gábor Kállay, György Róbert, Zsolt Balogh, Anita Huszár, Ildikó Cs. Nagy, Dániel Papp and others.
Since 2000 he has released four more early music albums performing with outstanding musicians, Georg Philipp Telemann: Trios being the latest one.
Imre Lachegyi is also interested in the world of folk and improvisative music; he often plays his own compositions. One of his programmes represents this orientation: Visio, in which he plays together his musician children. The recording of this programme was published in 2012.
He is president of Consort Music Foundation, established for promoting and supporting early music in Hungary as well as artistic director of Börzsöny Baroque Days early music festival organised by the Foundation. Also, he regularly performs at other concerts of the Foundation.
As a teacher, Imre Lachegyi has made a successful career. He has been teaching in Béla Bartók Music School in Vác for more than two decades, and has also teached in Tihamér Vujicsics Music School in Szentendre and Tibor Pikéthy Secondary School of Music in Vác, in the latter organising the early music faculty together with viola da gamba artist Sándor Szászvárosi and harpsichord artist Katalin Kovács. His students regularly take part and are awarded in different national competitions.
He was given the Town of Vác Art Award on 22 January 2014 for his outstanding artistic and pedagogical activity.
He has released seven albums so far.
